As against earlier reports on Sunday, May 29, information just coming in indicated that the Nigerian soldiers who shot at the said over speeding bus later discovered the bus has some police officers in it.
As a result of the shooting by the Nigerian soldiers manning the che
ckpoint, one person died on the spot, while three others sustained injury.
Initial investigation showed the identity of the occupants were police officer who were not in their uniform. They were reportedly said to be coming from Taraba State to Kaduna state for an interview.

While speaking about the shooting, Major Joseph Adekunle Afolasade, the assistant director, army public relations released a statement involving the role played by the Nigerian soldiers. The statement was made available to journalists in Bauchi on Sunday, May 29.
It reads:
“The Headquarters 33 Artillery Brigade wishes to inform the general public that today 28 May 2016 at about 2:14pm, the troops deployed at Panshanu check-point along Bauchi-Jos road opened fire on a bus that drove dangerously through the checkpoint and refused to stop when flagged down on suspicion that it might be conveying terrorists or armed criminal elements, while approaching the check point.”
Major Afolasade later spoke more about the sad event stating that the troops did what they did because of the driver’s refusal to stop for the normal check they carry out.
