People of North Bank area of Makurdi yesterday woke up to a gory
sight of another corpse of an unidentified young man dumped close to a
popular hotel around the
New Bridge.
Daily Sun observed that incidence of cult related killings is fast
becoming the order of the day in Benue especially the north Bank axis as
there is hardly a week that a corpse is not found dumped by the road
side.
Only last week, remains of another young man whose name was given as
Ali Adamu suspected to have been killed by cultists was found with a
deep cut on his head dumped at the roundabout close to the state
Ministry of Works.
Also, two weeks ago, another corpse was found inside a filling
station (name withheld by us) at the North Bank area of Makurdi and was
left there to decompose for several days before the police came and
picked it up.
Consequently, members of the public have decried the continuously
deteriorating security situation in the state and called on the state
governor, Samuel Ortom and security agencies in the state to rise to the
occasion and nip the ugly trend in the bud.
Only last Saturday, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social
Development, Mrs. Mwuese Nmyim was abducted on her way home from work
but was later rescued hours later when security operatives swung into
action.
When contacted, State Public Police Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP
Moses Yamu said he was yet to be briefed on the development but advised
people of the state to be more security conscious as the criminals were
not relenting in their efforts to perpetrate their nefarious acts.
Yamu also warned criminals operating in the state to turn from their
bad ways or be fished out and made to face the wrath of the law when
caught.
