The former PSG Boss loud Arsene Wenger for the legacy he created at Arsenal as he was unveiled as the Frenchman’s successor.
The Spaniard,
46-year-old was confirmed as the north London’s new head coach on Thursday having, according to chief executive Ivan Gazidis, beaten eight other candidates to the role.
Wenger served Arsenal for 22 years, delivering three Premier League titles, seven FA Cups and regular Champions League football.
His final season in charge, however, saw Arsenal finish in sixth place in the Premier League and knocked out of the Europa League at the semi final stage, while they were also hammered 3-0 by Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final. Despite an underwhelming end to his tenure, Emery is confident the work of his predecessor has ensured he will enjoy a stable transition.
‘Thank you Arsene for your legacy,’ said Emery at a press conference held at Emirates Stadium.
‘For all the coaches in all the world he is a reference and I learned from all the things in football.
‘It’s a big challenge for me but I worked also with other big projects and with me, for me, I am proud to be here and to work after Arsene Wenger.’
