The centre-back has impressed under Aitor Karanka, with his
performance putting him in the frame for an England call-up.
Middlesbrough hope to keep hold of Gibson but with Chelsea and Manchester City circling, it is claimed the club’s owners understand a summer move may materialise.
Blues boss Antonio Conte is expected to bolster his squad this summer, despite Chelsea being on the verge of clinching the Premier League title.
The Italian wants to oversee a significant spending spree to sure up his squad as they prepare to return to the Champions League next season.
But they will have to fend off interest from City if they are to land Gibson, as Pep Guardiola also reportedly intends to move for the 24-year-old at the end of the current campaign.
