Thousands of weed smokers descend on Hyde Park for 4/20
Thousands of people descended on Hyde Park today for a bit of cannabis appreciation on 4/20 day.
The event is one of the world’s biggest celebrations of cannabis and sees weed smokers spark up to call for the government to legalise the clas
s B drug.
Many ignored police warnings not to smoke the drugs during the event, with Met Police officers arresting 12 people for drug offences.
But those that were there said the atmosphere was ‘all about peace and love’ and a celebration of the plant.
‘Everyone’s happy. Once people start fighting then you can say it’s bad but it’s not,’ said James Adams, a 24-year-old construction worker,
It’s calm, cool, relaxed. Everyone’s in a good vibe. ‘It’s so different compared to other drugs. If everyone was taking coke there would have to be a stage and pumping music and people would be here until the morning.

The police warning did little to put off people from enjoying the day.
Peter, a 28-year-old concierge, said: ‘It’s just a celebration of the plant that I enjoy. It’s nice to see this many people getting together in one place and celebrating one thing.
‘I don’t think it would do much harm if it were legalised. It does way more good than harm in the States and so many people here smoke it anyways you might as well.
‘The attitude towards weed is relaxed here.’
