Awarded to the best French player regardless of which
league he’s playing in — they have a separate award for Ligue 1 Player
of the Year, which was won by Edinson Cavani — Kanté was one of four
nominees alongside soon-to-be most expensive player of all time Antoine
Griezmann, Karim “keeping Álvaro Morata unhappy and on the Chelsea
radar” Benzema, and new hotness Ousmane “I could’ve been Jeremie Boga
and vice versa” Dembélé. One notable absentee on that list of nominees
is Paul Pogba, which is a worthy note for purely trollish purposes.
In any case, with Kanté now being recognized not just in
England but on the Continent as well, surely a Ballon d’Or isn’t too far
behind? Right, your highness?
