Medical scheduled: Chelsea poised to complete Antonio Rudiger signing
Chelsea‘s move for Antonio Rudiger is all but done as reports claim the Roma defender is set to have a medical with the club on Monday ahead of completing a £33million transfer.
The Blues look set to pay an initial £29m for the
Germany international, with around £4m in potential add-ons for a player long linked with a move to the Premier League.
Rudiger impressed at previous club Stuttgart before making the move to Serie A in 2015 where he continued to shine as a strong, fast and intelligent centre-back.
Chelsea were reportedly in for the 24-year-old a year ago as well, before an injury ended any chance of him moving in that transfer window, but he now seems to be on his way to Stamford Bridge.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea and Roma have already met today to reach an agreement on the deal, with Rudiger also agreeing personal terms with the Premier League champions.
The report claims he’s set to sign a five-year contract to link up with Antonio Conte’s side ahead of the new season.
Despite finally landing a top central defender, Conte may not be finished in strengthening that position as rumours elsewhere claim he’s still keen to land previous targets Virgil van Dijk and Leonardo Bonucci as well.
The Italian is eager to bolster his defensive options following the departures of John Terry and Nathan Ake, who served as solid backup options last season.
