England captain Alastair Cook has become the youngest batsmen to score 10,000 runs in Test history.
The 31-year-old broke the record on the fourth day of the second Test of the summer against Sri Lanka at Chester Le Street, as England chased 79 to win the match and
series.
He was just 31 years, 5 months, and 5 days old when he broke the record.
Cook surpassed Sachin Tendulkar, who was 31 years, 10 months and 20 days old when he reached the milestone back in 2005.
The opening batsman, who scored a century on his debut in India a decade ago, is now the 12th player to have reached the landmark and the first Englishman to do so.
Speaking before the first Test, he said: ‘I have managed to score consistent runs for England over 10 years – and that gives me more pride than being compared to anyone else.’
