Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin given Euro 2016 hope as replacement for Spain’s injured Dani Carvajal
Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin looks set to be included in Spain’s Euro 2016 squad as replacement for the injured Dani Carvajal, Vicente del Bosque has h
inted.
Bellerin, who was snubbed by Del Bosque for the original Spanish squad, made his debut against Bosnia on Sunday evening as one of the six replacements for Atletico and Real Madrid players who were involved in the Champions League final a day earlier.
One of those Real Madrid players taking part in Saturday’s final, right-back Dani Carvajal, limped off in the second half after suffering a calf injury – a problem that left the 24-year-old leaving the pitch in tears and casting a doubt over his chances of competing at the Euro’s.
Arsenal’s young, pacey defender Bellerin however could be set to capitalise on Carvajal’s unfortunate injury. Spain boss Del Bosque confirmed that the Premier League man will stay with the Spanish squad for the foreseeable future.
‘We have two days to give the list of 23. In anticipation of what the doctors tell us, Hector Bellerin stays,’ Del Bosque said after their 3-1 victory over Bosnia.
