Village in lockdown after two tigers escape animal sanctuary
The big cats are believed to have got out of the Felida centre through a gate that had been left open.
The centre is a shelter that takes big cats from circuses and zoos before re-homing them, often in South Africa. People in Oldeberkoop, to the north of the c
ountry, were told to stay indoors while police and a vet armed with a tranquillisers hunted for the animals from the nearby sanctuary.
Police tweeted saying: ‘Tigers in sight. We are now going to try to bring them back to the shelter.’
The shelter is home to two lions, eight tigers, a black jaguar and a leopard.
